1st day: Mantova and Mincio River – LUNCH INCLUDED

In the morning free visit of Mantova with Palazzo Ducale, royal residence of the Gonzaga family throughout four centuries. This immense palace still hides many treasures among the collected pieces of arts commissioned by the marquises and later dukes of Mantua. Besides admiring Mantegna’s frescos in the Camera degli Sposi (the Bridal Chamber) as well as other areas commonly visited by tourists, such as Isabella d’Este’s Apartment and the Sala dello Specchio (the Hall of the Mirror) where Claudio Monteverdi used to play “ogni venere di sera...” (every Friday), accessible from the Hanging Gardens. The tour then moves to the external part of the Palace, through squares and courtyards that were once part of the court, as a proper “city inside the city”, as well as the Palatine Church of Santa Barbara, that still guards the precious 16th Century organ.

In the afternoon navigation on the Mincio. Water, earth, history, art, nature, legends here Mantua and its territory to be discovered surfing lakes (that embrace), the Mincio, Po.

2nd day: Cremona and Soncino – LUNCH INCLUDED

Breakfast in hotel.

In the morning free visit of Cremona. The city is easy to get around on foot, plus it is surrounded by a suggestive natural landscape and plenty of opportunities to taste its fine cuisine. Our visit starts by visiting the Torrazzo, we go to the top and admire the urban skyline from above. Afterwards head to the Cathedral or Duomo standing beside it, this structure is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary.

In the afternoon free visit of Soncino. Soncino is quite a small town in the Lombardy region of northern Italy, and to the north-west of Cremona (also east of Milan) that is visited for its important 15th century castle. The town of Soncino is also officially listed among the 'most beautiful villages in Italy'.

3rd day: Pavia and Certosa – LUNCH INCLUDED

In the morning free visit of Pavia. Founded by the Romans as a military garrison, Pavia has long been a strategic city both geographically and politically. It sits at the centre of an agricultural plain (hence its ugly periphery) and its university is considered one of the best in Italy, with previous alumni including explorer Christopher Columbus, physicist Alessandro Volta and poet and revolutionary Ugo Foscolo.

In the afternoon free visit of Pavia Certosa (Monastery). The Certosa di Pavia, a monastery built by Gian Galeazzo Visconti as a family chapel, is connected to the castle by the Visconteo Park. When construction began on 27 August 1396, Gian Galeazzo was the one to lay the first stone. The church was covered at the behest of Francesco Sforza in 1462, while the large cloister was finished in 1472, consisting of brickwork arches supported by marble columns.
